The cover of Game Informer had unparalleled influence that year. Game makers would even forgo major awards shows to be on the cover of GI in a few months. When the first Red Dead Redemption failed to appear on the cover of GI, Rockstar bought advertising space for the entire cover.

The legends of GI magazine are countless. For example, at one E3 show, GI had Activision cancel Tony Hawk Dungeon just because it would be on the next cover.
